Antam Gold Bar Price Rises to Rp2.639 Million
Antam’s certified gold bar price climbed Rp15,000 to Rp2,639,000 per gram on Thursday, underscoring how Indonesia’s bullion market remains near record territory even as jewelry prices in the wider market soften.
The move lifts the buyback price by the same Rp15,000 to Rp2,492,000 per gram, keeping resale values high for holders and preserving the metal’s appeal as a hedge against volatility. For investors and retail buyers, the key point is not just the daily change but the elevated base: Antam’s 1-gram bar is now quoted at Rp2,645,598, while a 1,000-gram bar fetches Rp2.586 billion.
The latest price move comes amid continued turbulence in gold markets globally and locally. Conventional technical indicators on the U.S.-listed SPDR Gold Trust show the metal recovering after a pullback, with the fund closing at $402.78 on Sept. 2, above its 50-day moving average of $387.24 but still below its 200-day average of $415.09, a sign that the broader uptrend remains intact but stretched. RSI readings near 52 suggest momentum has cooled from overbought levels, while Adalytica’s Gold Fear & Greed Index sits at “Extreme Fear,” reflecting heightened caution rather than confidence.
For Indonesian investors, the Antam quote matters because it is the most widely watched benchmark for physical gold in the country and a direct reference for retail savings demand. Higher buyback levels support liquidity for existing holders, but they also raise the entry cost for new buyers, which can cap near-term demand for jewelry and small bars if volatility continues.
Tax rules also remain part of the trading calculus. Under Indonesia’s PMK No. 48/2023, gold bar purchases and resales are subject to Article 22 income tax, with lower rates for registered taxpayers, which slightly lifts effective transaction costs at a time when prices are already elevated.
The next catalyst is whether international gold extends its rebound or slips back toward its recent support levels. If overseas bullion holds above key moving averages, Antam prices are likely to stay firm; if not, local buyers may see another round of price swings before demand stabilizes.
