ASUR Completes R$5.1B Brazil Airport Acquisition

ASUR has completed its R$5.1 billion acquisition of Motiva’s airport platform in Brazil, giving the Mexican operator its biggest international expansion and cementing its claim as the largest airport group in the Americas by annual passenger traffic.
The deal hands ASUR stakes in 17 Brazilian airports and three other airports in Quito, San José and Curaçao, adding a network that handled more than 48 million passengers in 2025 across more than 200 regular routes. ASUR already manages another 71.6 million passengers a year in its existing portfolio, making the Brazilian assets a scale play that expands its reach across the region rather than a simple country entry.
For investors, the strategic value is less about the headline price than about access to Brazil, the largest air travel market in Latin America, and to a diversified set of assets spanning tourism, regional aviation, cargo, logistics and agribusiness corridors. The portfolio includes major airports in Belo Horizonte/Confins, Curitiba, Navegantes, Foz do Iguaçu, São Luís and Petrolina, giving ASUR exposure to traffic flows tied to domestic demand, exports and cross-border commerce.
ASUR said the transition will not interrupt operations, with about 1,000 workers staying on and services continuing through existing channels. José Formoso will lead ASUR Brazil as chief executive, and the company says its first priority is to keep the integration stable while preserving local expertise and customer service.
The move widens ASUR’s footprint beyond Mexico, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Costa Rica and Curaçao, while also deepening its commercial presence at major U.S. hubs including Los Angeles, New York and Chicago. The next test is execution: integrating the new Brazilian platform without operational disruption while closing remaining regulatory steps tied to the 12.75% Zurich Airport stake in BH Airport.
