Bitcoin at $62,847 as Ether, Solana Outperform

Cryptocurrencies that had been this year’s biggest winners are now splitting from Bitcoin, with Ether and Solana holding firmer than the market leader as traders reassess risk after Bitcoin slipped back toward $62,800.
The move matters because Bitcoin remains the bellwether for digital assets, and its inability to break away from the low-$60,000 area is keeping a lid on broader crypto risk appetite. Bitcoin was little changed at $62,847.22 on Aug. 3, after trading between $62,799.09 and $63,497.25, while Ether rose to $1,857.85 and Solana edged up to $72.88.
That relative outperformance is important for investors because it shows capital is still rotating within crypto rather than exiting the asset class outright. Ether has stabilized above its recent lows after falling as far as $1,821.68 in February, and Solana is trading just above its recent close at $72.79, suggesting buyers are still willing to support higher-beta tokens even as Bitcoin stays rangebound.
The technical picture is mixed but not broken. Bitcoin remains slightly below its 50-day moving average of $63,338.51 and far under its 200-day average of $71,122.01, while Ether is also below both its 50-day average of $1,780.21 and 200-day average of $2,095.09. Solana is likewise under its 50-day average of $74.96 and 200-day average of $85.71, showing the sector is still repairing damage from earlier selloffs.
Adalytica’s Bitcoin Fear & Greed Index sits at 28, or “Fear,” after dropping 24 points in a day and 50 points over the past week, underscoring how fragile sentiment remains even as prices stabilize. By contrast, the S&P 500’s trade signals gauge shows “Extreme Greed,” highlighting the gap between broad-market risk appetite and the more cautious tone in crypto.
For investors, that setup leaves crypto highly event-driven. Any break above Bitcoin’s recent resistance or a fresh risk-on move in equities could quickly lift the group, but if Bitcoin fails to reclaim its moving averages, the market is likely to keep rewarding selective strength in Ether, Solana and other survivors rather than a broad-based rally.
