Chennai Gold Prices Hold Flat at ₹1,13,530
Gold jewellery prices in Chennai were unchanged on the holiday, with 22-carat ornaments holding at ₹1,13,530 per sovereign, or ₹14,190 per gram, after a sharp two-day drop.
The steady print comes after prices swung violently earlier in the week, with rates jumping ₹2,320 per sovereign on Sept. 3 to ₹1,13,920, then adding another ₹960 to ₹1,14,880 before retreating ₹1,360 yesterday. Silver also stayed flat at ₹255 a gram, or ₹2.55 lakh a kilogram.
For buyers, the pause offers a brief breather after several sessions of volatility, but it does not yet signal a stable downtrend. For jewellers, the move keeps inventory and pricing decisions tricky heading into the next round of bullion moves.
The broader backdrop still favors caution: gold-tracking funds remain under pressure, with GLD closing at $406.77 and Adalytica’s Gold Fear & Greed Index at 16, deep in “Fear,” even as U.S. Treasury yields hover near 4.77% to 4.79% and the dollar shows renewed strength. That mix can keep imported precious metals choppy and leave retail jewellery prices sensitive to every shift in global rates and currency moves.
Investors and gold shoppers will now watch for the next cue from overseas bullion, the dollar and yields, which are likely to determine whether Chennai prices stabilize or resume their recent swings.
