The DAX is still trading below a key resistance band and, after a sharp mid-September slide, technical traders are now watching whether Germany’s blue-chip index can hold above 25,000 or slip back toward the 25,000-24,860 area.
DAX Holds Below 25,700 as Momentum Stays Weak
That matters because the move comes after the index fell from 26,007.63 on Sept. 8 to 25,172.89 by Sept. 15, before rebounding to 25,490.97 on Sept. 23 and closing at 25,408.64 on Sept. 25. The sequence shows a market that has stabilized, but not repaired, leaving investors with a choppy range rather than a confirmed recovery.
The latest trading levels also keep the DAX below its 50-day moving average of 25,810.62, even though it remains above the 200-day moving average of 24,808.63. Momentum is still soft: RSI readings have recovered from oversold territory but remain modest at 37.9, while MACD stays negative, underscoring that the rebound has not yet turned into a durable trend change.
On the chart, resistance is being cited around 25,702 and 25,613, with a failure to break those levels keeping downside targets in focus. A loss of 25,393 would strengthen the case for another leg lower toward the X-Sequentials midpoint near 25,025, while a deeper decline could test the lower end of the 25,000-24,860 zone.
The broader backdrop remains mixed for risk assets. Adalytica’s global stability gauge shows extreme greed, even as its awareness reading is in extreme fear, a combination that suggests markets are still carrying a high level of fragility beneath surface optimism. U.S. equity sentiment also remains elevated, which can limit fresh flows into European stocks if global investors prefer larger momentum trades elsewhere.
For investors, the near-term question is whether the DAX can reclaim the 25,600-25,700 area and force short covering, or whether the index resumes its slide and drags sentiment back toward the September lows. The next catalyst is likely to come from fresh macro data, corporate earnings or any decisive break through the current technical band.
