Gold rises in Vietnam as spot nears $4,400

Gold prices jumped across Vietnam on Sept. 19, with SJC bars and gold rings rising sharply even as world bullion recovered to within striking distance of $4,400 an ounce, underscoring renewed demand for safe-haven assets.
The move matters because gold remains a key inflation hedge and a barometer of risk appetite at a time when U.S. rates are still high, the dollar is strong and investors are rethinking the path of Federal Reserve policy. For Vietnamese buyers, the jump lifts local retail prices to fresh highs and widens the cost of entering or adding to positions.
SJC gold bars at several major brands climbed as much as 1.8 million dong per tael to 144.6 million-147.6 million dong, while gold rings also advanced by as much as 1.8 million dong. Bảo Tín Minh Châu, DOJI, Phú Quý and PNJ all posted higher quotes, with ring products from Bảo Tín Mạnh Hải and Bảo Tín Minh Châu moving up 1.4 million dong to 148.1 million dong at the top end.
Internationally, spot gold was quoted around $4,377-$4,379 an ounce in early Asian trade, up about $32 from the previous day and near a one-week high. Gold futures also pushed back above $4,400, a level traders are watching closely as the metal tests resistance around $4,396-$4,405.
The rebound comes after a volatile stretch that included a pullback earlier in the month, but support has returned as oil prices eased and investors continued to look for protection against broader macro uncertainty. Even so, a firmer dollar and elevated Treasury yields remain headwinds for bullion, limiting how far the rally can run without a fresh catalyst.
The broader setup keeps gold in focus for investors in both physical and paper markets. If prices hold above the $4,400 area, traders may see room for another leg higher; if not, the latest jump risks turning into another short-lived spike in a market already swinging on Fed expectations and global risk sentiment.
