ONEOK lifts 2026 outlook on stronger NGL volumes

ONEOK is lifting its 2026 outlook after a stronger-than-expected run in natural gas liquids volumes, underscoring how rising feedstock demand and export-linked growth are bolstering earnings across the midstream sector.
The upgrade matters because ONEOK’s business is built on fee-based gathering, processing and transportation tied to NGL production, so higher volumes can flow more directly into revenue and cash generation than a commodity price swing. It also points to a healthier production backdrop in key U.S. shale basins, where more gas processing typically means more ethane, propane and butane moving through pipelines and fractionation systems.
Shares of ONEOK have already climbed sharply this year, with the stock closing at $88.24 on Aug. 3, up from $69.34 in mid-December and above both its 50-day average of $89.25 and 200-day average of $80.87. Recent trading shows the rally has cooled, with the stock slipping from $90.81 on July 31 to $88.24, while a 39.6 RSI reading suggests momentum has eased from earlier overbought levels.
The company’s improved outlook also comes against a supportive backdrop for the broader NGL complex. U.S. manufacturing has shown its fastest recent growth rate, driven by stronger new export orders, a sign that industrial and trade-related demand is holding up for American energy and petrochemical feedstocks.
That helps explain why peers and counterparties have also been firm. Energy Transfer closed at $20.28 on Aug. 3, while MPLX ended at $58.91, both reflecting continued investor interest in cash-generating midstream assets as throughput volumes improve. For ONEOK, the key question now is whether the NGL volume strength can persist into 2026 without a material slowdown in upstream production or export demand.
The next catalyst will be whether management can translate the higher volume outlook into a firmer earnings and distribution trajectory when it updates investors further on operating trends and capital plans.
| Entity | Gains | Losses |
|---|---|---|
| ONEOK | ▲Higher NGL volumes, improved 2026 outlook | ▼Margin pressure if volumes slow |
| Midstream peers | ▲Stronger sector sentiment | ▼Relative underperformance if ONEOK outgrows them |
| U.S. exporters | ▲More feedstock and energy throughput | ▼Tighter supply if demand outpaces capacity |
| Short sellers | ▲Less downside if momentum stays firm | ▼Higher risk on volume-driven re-rating |
