Palembang Gold Prices Rise as Jewelry Holds Steady
Palembang’s gold market is splitting between higher bullion prices and unchanged jewelry rates, with Antam bars in the city rising Rp15,000 per gram while jewelry prices stay flat as buyers turn cautious and some large holders lock in profits.
According to Pegadaian data, Antam gold in Palembang is sold at Rp2,665,000 per gram, up from the previous day, while Galeri 24 bars are priced at Rp2,574,000 per gram. Jewelry prices, including the roughly 6.7-gram “per suku” measure widely used by local buyers, remain stable at about Rp13.7 million to Rp14.3 million per suku depending on karat and workmanship charges.
The gap matters for the local gold economy because bullion and jewelry are serving different purposes. Bars are tracking investment demand, while jewelry pricing is being anchored by slower retail turnover and stable shop-level inventories, suggesting households are still weighing gold purchases against daily necessities.
A local jeweler said the flat jewelry market reflects profit taking by larger investors after recent gains, which has lifted supply and pressured prices. He also said buying interest has eased, with some consumers prioritizing basic spending over discretionary purchases.
For investors, the move reinforces gold’s role as a store of value even when retail demand softens. The Indonesian pricing pattern also mirrors broader global gold volatility, with international bullion benchmarks still elevated and technical readings showing the market cooling from earlier strength.
In Palembang, that leaves buyers facing a narrower but still firm market: bars are inching higher, jewelry is holding, and any fresh upside will likely depend on whether domestic demand stabilizes or more sellers rush to cash out gains.
