Prosperity Bancshares revenue down $70 million after Stellar deal

Prosperity Bancshares’ revenue has fallen about $70 million from its 2023 peak because the Texas lender has been digesting a major balance-sheet reset, including the July 1 acquisition of Stellar Bancorp, rather than adding a fresh wave of fee and loan growth on top of last year’s base.
That decline matters because bank revenue is being driven more by mix, funding costs and deal accounting than by a straight-line expansion story. For investors, it suggests the top line is now tied to integration execution and margin stabilization, not just deposit and loan momentum.

Prosperity completed the Stellar deal on July 1, giving the bank a much larger footprint in Texas but also making year-over-year comparisons less clean. Acquisitions can depress near-term reported revenue if the acquired balance sheet comes with lower-yielding assets, higher funding costs or temporary accounting effects that do not repeat once the deal anniversaries roll off.
The stock has held up better than the revenue trend might suggest. PB closed at $73.34 on Aug. 10, above its 50-day moving average of $72.07 and 200-day average of $69.05, with RSI at 51.5 and MACD still positive, pointing to a market that is cautious but not pricing in a deeper deterioration.
The broader backdrop also helps explain why the revenue drop may not recur. S&P 500 sentiment is sitting in “Extreme Greed” territory, and the banking sector has been operating in a market that is rewarding cleaner balance sheets, disciplined cost control and acquisition synergies rather than pure growth. For Prosperity, that means the key question is whether Stellar’s contribution offsets the lost momentum from the 2023 peak and whether the combined franchise can expand earnings power as integration progresses.
Investors will be watching the next earnings update for evidence that the acquisition is adding to net interest income and fee generation, not just swelling assets. If the merger synergies show up as expected, the 2023 revenue peak should look more like a comparison issue than a ceiling.
