Reliance Jio offers free Prime Lite to JioHome users
Reliance Jio is deepening its consumer bundle strategy by giving eligible JioHome customers a free 12-month Amazon Prime Lite subscription, a move that makes its broadband plans more sticky and raises the value of home connectivity in India’s increasingly competitive digital market.
The offer starts rolling out on Sept. 19 and will reach users in phases over the next two weeks. It applies to new and existing customers on JioHome’s 30 Mbps and 100 Mbps 3-in-1 plans, which package TV, OTT and Wi‑Fi into a single connection. For households already weighing broadband options on price alone, the addition of Prime Lite — including Prime Video access plus delivery perks on eligible Amazon orders — gives Jio another reason to keep subscribers inside its ecosystem.
That matters because broadband is no longer just a utility business. In India, the fight is increasingly about bundling entertainment, shopping and connectivity into one relationship, lowering churn and lifting lifetime customer value. For Jio, giving away a year of Prime Lite is a customer-acquisition and retention tool, not just a promotional perk. The company can absorb the cost more easily if the offer helps it sell more fixed wireless and fiber plans, keeps users from switching, and nudges households deeper into the Jio-Amazon spending loop.
The rollout is also carefully segmented. Users on the Rs 888 and Rs 1,199 plans, along with customers on 150 Mbps and above, keep the existing 24-month Prime Lite benefit, which is the richer deal. That suggests Jio is preserving incentives where it wants to defend premium subscribers while using the one-year offer to widen appeal at the mid-tier level.
Claiming the benefit is simple enough: eligible users will see a Prime Lite banner on the MyJio home page inside their JioHome account, and activation starts the 12-month clock. The timing matters too. The free year begins on activation, not on announcement, so customers can wait without losing value.
For Amazon, the partnership extends the reach of Prime Video and shopping benefits deeper into India’s mass-market broadband base, where bundled subscriptions can be a powerful distribution channel. The tradeoff, of course, is that such offers can become a cost of doing business if rival telcos copy them. But for now, Jio is using one of the oldest telecom tactics in the playbook — bundling value to reduce churn — and applying it to the streaming-and-commerce era.
Long term, investors should watch whether these kinds of packages turn JioHome into a higher-margin loyalty engine rather than just a price-driven broadband product. If the answer is yes, that is good for Reliance’s ecosystem story and for Amazon’s India engagement, even if the benefit is hidden from plain sight in a free subscription.
