RWE Gains JPMorgan Positive Catalyst Watch
JPMorgan Chase has turned more bullish on RWE, putting the German utility on "Positive Catalyst Watch" while keeping an Overweight rating as the bank sees room for the company to raise its full-year targets.
That matters because a higher earnings outlook would reinforce the view that RWE is still being too conservative on profit guidance, a message that can drive both valuation and near-term trading in a stock already up 36.7% this year. For investors, the call raises the odds of another positive read-through from upcoming earnings and capital markets events, especially if management confirms stronger short- and medium-term earnings power.
JPMorgan analyst Javier Garrido said RWE’s current planning looks conservative on both a near- and medium-term basis. The bank’s "Positive Catalyst Watch" designation typically signals that it expects a stock-moving event in the near term, in this case likely tied to an upgrade in annual targets or more constructive commentary on capital returns.
RWE shares were 0.7% higher at 60.66 euros on Xetra around 11:05 a.m., with 242,749 shares traded. The stock has outperformed sharply over the past year as investors have rotated into utilities with visible earnings and exposure to the power transition.
The backdrop is important for the broader European utility sector, where earnings revisions and management guidance are doing much of the heavy lifting for share prices. If RWE does lift its outlook, it could strengthen the case for other regulated and power generation names with similar earnings momentum, while disappointing guidance would likely invite profit-taking after the stock’s strong run.
The next catalyst is RWE’s upcoming reporting season and investor events, where traders will be watching for any change to annual profit guidance, cash-flow expectations and capital allocation plans.
