Solana Struggles Near Key Support Ahead of Alpenglow
Solana is clinging to the $73 area even as traders look ahead to the Alpenglow launch, underscoring how little recent product and ETF optimism has translated into price support.
The token closed at $75.93 on July 27, up 2.1% on the day, after briefly trading as high as $77.35, but it remains below its 200-day moving average of $87.73 and only slightly above the 50-day average of $74.16. That keeps SOL in a technically fragile zone, where a break under the $73 lower Bollinger Band could invite another leg lower.
The setup matters because Solana is still one of the busiest blockchains in crypto, with strong decentralized exchange volume and rising network usage, but the market is no longer paying up for activity alone. DEX fees have fallen 63%, a sign that usage is not yet translating into the kind of revenue profile investors want to see from a major layer-1 network.
That disconnect helps explain why recent catalysts have not produced a sustained breakout. Morgan Stanley’s launch of a Solana-based ETF and headlines around record network activity have not been enough to pull SOL back toward its prior highs, even after the token rallied above $200 last year. Investors are instead watching whether Alpenglow can restore confidence in Solana’s ecosystem and improve the case for stickier capital.
Technical indicators suggest the market is still undecided rather than outright bearish. SOL’s 14-day RSI has risen to 53.3 from 42.3 over the past few sessions, while MACD is only slightly negative, hinting at stabilizing momentum after months of decline. But the broader trend remains weak, with SOL still far below its 2025 peaks and trading in a compressed band around $74 to $77.
For investors, the key question is whether Alpenglow becomes a genuine network catalyst or just another event that fails to reverse a market that has already discounted a lot of crypto execution risk. A clean move back above the 50-day average would be the first sign buyers are regaining control; losing $73 would put the focus back on whether Solana can defend the next support zone.
