XRP Ledger upgrade goes live as $1.50 cap holds

XRP is approaching a technical and fundamental inflection point as a long-awaited ledger upgrade goes live and traders weigh whether the token can finally clear the $1.50 area that has capped recent advances.
The biggest market question is not whether XRP has momentum, but whether the next catalyst can turn that momentum into a durable re-rating. At $1.37 on Sept. 12, XRP remains below the $1.50 threshold that traders see as the trigger for a move toward $1.60 and then $2.00, while volume has faded to $1.73 billion from more than $4.69 billion a week earlier. That leaves the market in a wait-and-see mode even as the underlying network is set to broaden its functionality.
On Friday, the XRPL fixCleanup3_3_0 upgrade is scheduled to activate after gaining 82.86% validator support, clearing a two-week requirement and preparing the ledger for cleaner vault, lending and trading pool operations before those features are opened more widely. For investors, that matters because crypto valuations are increasingly tied not just to narrative and liquidity, but to whether a network can support more on-chain activity and higher-value use cases. The data point that more than $3.72 billion in real assets now settle on XRP Ledger, up 30-fold from a year ago, suggests the market is starting to assign some value to that utility story.
Technically, XRP is in a constructive but unproven position. The token is trading just above its lower Bollinger Band and above both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, which points to a market that has not broken down but has also not confirmed a breakout. The relative strength index near 46.8 indicates neither overbought enthusiasm nor washed-out selling. That combination usually precedes a sharp move, but direction will likely depend on whether buyers appear around the $1.35 to $1.50 band.
That is why Friday’s ledger change matters beyond the code itself. It does not guarantee demand, but it removes a source of friction just as XRP is trying to convert network adoption into price appreciation. Bulls will argue that broader functionality and rising real-world settlement create a stronger case for capital to stay in the ecosystem. Bears will counter that XRP has repeatedly struggled to sustain rallies without a decisive increase in trading volume, and that the current setup still leaves the token vulnerable if the $1.35 support gives way.
The contrast with smaller, earlier-stage crypto bets underscores the broader market backdrop. Pepeto’s live bridge, which moves assets across five chains in under 60 seconds with no transfer fee beyond gas, is drawing attention from traders looking for more immediate upside in presale tokens, highlighting how capital is still willing to rotate toward products with live utility and a clearer speculative path. But XRP remains the more established asset, and its challenge is different: prove that real network usage and protocol upgrades can justify a higher valuation even after a strong run from earlier lows.
For now, the setup is straightforward. A sustained move above $1.50 would put $2 back on the table and likely draw in momentum-driven buyers. Failure to break that ceiling would leave XRP dependent on ledger adoption and broader crypto risk appetite, rather than a clear technical breakout. In a market where utility narratives are competing with faster-moving speculative flows, that distinction may decide whether XRP’s next leg is real or just another bounce.
| Entity | Gains | Losses |
|---|---|---|
| XRP holders | ▲Higher odds of breakout above $1.50 | ▼Risk of another failed rally |
| XRPL validators/builders | ▲More usable network features | ▼Delayed full adoption if price stalls |
| Momentum traders | ▲Breakout trade if volume returns | ▼Range-bound chop if resistance holds |
| Pepeto and early-stage crypto buyers | ▲Rotation into live utility and presale upside | ▼Liquidity if XRP captures attention |
