Zcash jumped above $1,000 for the first time after Grayscale outlined a hypothetical $8,100 price target using a Bitcoin valuation model, giving the privacy coin fresh momentum in a market already leaning into crypto speculation.
Zcash tops $1,000 after Grayscale model target
The move matters because it turns Zcash from a niche alternative token into a high-beta trade on the broader debate over whether scarce digital assets can be priced off Bitcoin’s monetary premium. For investors, that kind of framing can attract momentum money fast, especially when a small liquid asset is repriced in round-number territory that draws retail attention and derivative activity.
ZEC-USD last traded at $1,019.84, up from $951.97 a day earlier and $767.95 on Aug. 25, while intraday trading pushed the token as high as $1,036.91. Volume was still hefty at 772.1 million on the latest session after topping 1.53 billion on Sept. 4, underscoring that the rally is being driven by active trading rather than thin liquidity.
The advance has also stretched technical measures. Zcash is trading well above its 50-day moving average of $613.13 and its 200-day average of $444.81, while its 71.3 RSI reading still points to an overheated market even after cooling from above 90 earlier in the move. The Bollinger Band upper level sits at $1,080.43, suggesting the token is already pressing the top end of its recent range.
Bitcoin’s own price action has helped keep the backdrop constructive for speculative crypto bets. BTC was last at $79,788.09, little changed on the day, with Adalytica’s Bitcoin Fear & Greed Index at 44, a neutral reading, even as the platform shows “awareness” still in fear territory at 16. That mix often supports selective rotation into thinner names when traders search for higher upside.
Grayscale’s model-driven target is not a forecast in the conventional sense, but it gives Zcash a narrative anchor at a time when privacy and scarcity themes are back in focus. The question now is whether the rally can consolidate above $1,000 or whether overbought conditions and profit-taking pull it back toward the $900 area before the next catalyst.
