Alphabet is heading into quarterly earnings with Wells Fargo lifting its price target to $417 from $411 and keeping an overweight rating, as the bank says Google Cloud could deliver a headline-grabbing 142% year-over-year revenue surge.
Alphabet earnings preview: Wells Fargo raises target
That call matters because Alphabet’s shares have been trading near $348 to $352 this week, above both the 50-day and 200-day moving averages, and investors are looking for proof that AI infrastructure demand is turning into real revenue growth. A cloud acceleration of that size would strengthen the case that Alphabet is no longer just a search and YouTube story, but also a major beneficiary of the AI buildout.
Wells Fargo’s view also puts a spotlight on the other side of the business. Search remains solid, the bank said, but growth is slowing, which makes the company’s ability to offset any moderation in advertising with cloud and AI gains more important for the stock.
The strategic issue is Gemini 4 and the rise of consumer AI agents. Wells Fargo says Alphabet has to show it can capture that shift without weakening the economics of Google Search, which still funds much of the company’s investment in compute, models and product development.
Investors now have three things to watch in the report: cloud growth, the pace of Search, and management’s answer on how Gemini fits into the next phase of internet usage. Technical indicators also suggest the stock has room to move, with RSI readings in the low- to mid-40s on recent sessions and momentum improving after a volatile summer.
If Google Cloud comes in near the bullish forecast, Alphabet could re-rate higher on expectations that AI infrastructure becomes a more durable earnings driver. If Search slows faster than expected, the market may focus instead on the risk that AI changes the company’s core business before new revenue streams scale.
