Dogecoin is under pressure after dropping more than 11% this week, with large-holder selling and weakening momentum putting the meme token back on the defensive near a key $0.084 support level.
Dogecoin falls near $0.084 as whale selling grows
The token traded around $0.085 on Friday, leaving it just above the trendline area traders are watching for a potential break lower. A daily close below $0.084 could open the way to $0.078 and then $0.070, while resistance starts near $0.086 and thickens at $0.088 and $0.093.
The main drag comes from whales. Santiment data show wallets holding between 1 million and 10 million DOGE, as well as those with 10 million to 100 million tokens, cut their combined balances by 100 million DOGE since Tuesday. That does not prove every coin was sold, but it does suggest some large holders are trimming exposure, a bearish signal when the market is already fragile.
CryptoQuant’s indicators also point to caution, flagging overheating conditions in both spot and futures trading along with large orders and sell-side dominance in futures. At the same time, derivatives positioning is not fully one-sided: CoinGlass puts DOGE’s long-to-short ratio at 0.90, near a monthly high, and funding rates remain positive at 0.0010%, meaning longs are still paying shorts to hold their bets.
That tension between cautious whales and persistent retail leverage matters because Dogecoin often trades on momentum rather than fundamentals. When large wallets reduce exposure and technicals weaken at the same time, the market can lose the marginal bid that keeps sharp pullbacks from turning into deeper corrections.
The chart damage is building. DOGE remains below its 100-day exponential moving average near $0.086, the 50-day EMA around $0.088 and the 200-day EMA at $0.093, while the Relative Strength Index sits near 40 and the MACD is below both zero and its signal line. That combination usually points to sellers retaining the near-term advantage.
For investors, the key question is whether the coin can hold $0.084 long enough for derivatives traders to force a rebound, or whether whale selling and weak momentum trigger another leg down. A decisive break lower would shift attention to the $0.078 and $0.070 zones, while a recovery above $0.093 would be needed to ease the bearish setup.
