Dogecoin’s attempt to hold the $0.08 level is being tested by a tug of war between whale accumulation and a bearish technical setup that could draw in more selling if support breaks.
Dogecoin Holds $0.08 as Whale Buying Tests Support
Large holders have scooped up more than 600 million DOGE since Oct. 12 even as the token slid to $0.08, suggesting some investors see value at current levels and are willing to absorb pressure from retail sellers. But the chart remains fragile: DOGE is trading below its 20-day, 50-day and 200-day simple moving averages, and the 50-day line is close to crossing below the 200-day line, a so-called death cross that traders often treat as a warning that downside momentum is strengthening.
That matters because Dogecoin’s price action is still being driven less by fundamentals than by flows, leverage and sentiment. The token’s open interest has risen 2.93% to $218 million even as the price weakens, which points to fresh money entering the derivatives market rather than an orderly unwind. In other words, traders are still positioning for volatility, and the next move may be exaggerated if the crowded long side begins to lose conviction.
The technical picture is not yet uniformly bearish. DOGE’s lower Bollinger Band was reached as the price came under pressure, and the TD Sequential indicator flashed a buy signal around $0.081, a level that has previously preceded short-term reversals. Roughly 74% of top traders are said to be positioned long, which could support a rebound if buyers defend $0.08 again. But that same positioning also leaves the market vulnerable to a squeeze if support gives way and leveraged longs are forced out.
The broader narrative is the familiar one for Dogecoin: large wallets tend to accumulate when smaller traders panic, but the asset still needs sustained inflows to turn those tactical buys into a durable trend. CoinDCX has flagged a likely October range of $0.075 to $0.088, underscoring how narrow the battleground is. A decisive break below support would reinforce the bearish technical case and risk triggering further liquidation, while a hold above $0.08 could keep alive the argument that whales are front-running a short-term recovery.
For investors, the key issue is not whether Dogecoin can bounce on whale demand alone, but whether that demand is strong enough to overpower deteriorating momentum. If the death cross is confirmed, technical sellers may dominate near term; if whale buying continues and futures positioning stays firm, DOGE could still extend its rebound before the wider trend reasserts itself.
