Dubai shares ended Tuesday almost unchanged even as trading picked up, underscoring a market that is still drawing activity but lacking a strong directional catalyst.
Dubai shares end flat as turnover rises
The Dubai Inch Index slipped 0.01% to 5,907.20 points, a loss of just 0.93 point, while turnover climbed to 623.232 million dirhams across 14,643 trades on volume of 450.974 million shares. The session trimmed the market’s value by 715 million dirhams to 965.837 billion dirhams, suggesting investors remained active but were unwilling to chase prices higher after recent gains.
Breadth was mixed: 22 stocks advanced, 20 declined and nine were unchanged. That points to selective buying rather than a broad market move, with gains in some names offset by weakness in others.
Banking and small-cap volatility helped shape the session. Emirates Investment Bank was the day’s biggest loser, falling 4.92%, while Drake & Scull led the gainers with a 4.93% rise. The communications sector was the top gainer among industry groups, up 0.825%, while basic materials fell 4.842%, highlighting how sector rotation, not index-wide conviction, drove trading.
The muted close comes after Dubai shares added 3.78 billion dirhams in market value in the previous session, and amid broader Gulf market support from high oil prices and policy reforms. For investors, the immediate question is whether improving liquidity can translate into a firmer directional trend, or whether the market remains range-bound with stock-specific moves doing most of the work.
