Mexican stocks fell Wednesday, snapping a four-session winning streak as stronger-than-expected U.S. inflation revived worries about the path of Federal Reserve policy and pressured risk assets across emerging markets.
Mexican Stocks Fall After Hot U.S. CPI Data

Mexico’s benchmark S&P/BMV IPC slipped 0.26% to 66,790.35 points, while the FTSE BIVA lost 0.23% to 1,354.30. The pullback followed gains in global equities that cooled after the U.S. Consumer Price Index showed monthly inflation up 0.6% in September, in line with forecasts, but core inflation rose 0.3%, above the 0.2% economists had expected.
The move matters because Mexico’s equity market is tightly tied to global rate expectations and foreign capital flows. Hotter core U.S. inflation tends to support the dollar and keep Treasury yields elevated, conditions that typically weigh on higher-beta markets such as Mexico and on companies with international investor followings.
Grupo Carso led the decliners, tumbling 6.61% to 145.12 pesos, after the stock’s recent run left it vulnerable to profit-taking. Mining group Industrias Peñoles also fell, down 3.02% to 869.48 pesos, underscoring broad weakness across the local market rather than a single-company catalyst.
For investors, the session shows how quickly Mexican equities can reverse when Wall Street reprices the Fed outlook. Mexico’s benchmark had advanced for four straight days before Wednesday’s drop, and the move in Grupo Carso will keep traders watching whether the recent rally in local shares has enough momentum to extend without a softer U.S. inflation backdrop.
Technical indicators on Grupo Carso also point to cooling momentum after a sharp climb earlier in the year, with the stock still above its 50-day moving average but off recent highs. The next catalyst for Mexican assets is likely to come from the Fed rate path and the next run of U.S. macro data.
