Pegadaian’s gold price list on Sunday shows Antam still commanding a premium over UBS and Galeri24, underscoring that Indonesian retail buyers are paying up for the most recognizable local bullion brand even as global gold sentiment turns sharply more cautious.
Antam gold price stays above UBS and Galeri24
Antam was priced at Rp2.579 million a gram, above UBS at Rp2.491 million and Galeri24 at Rp2.467 million. The gap matters because it reflects not just brand preference but also the way retail buyers in Indonesia are using gold as a store of value at a time when macro conditions are mixed: oil has rebounded above $100 a barrel, U.S. 10-year Treasury yields are hovering near 5%, and gold-linked assets have come under pressure in recent sessions.
The spread between physical gold prices and broader market signals suggests a market caught between inflation hedging and tighter financial conditions. Higher oil prices can reinforce inflation expectations, which traditionally supports gold demand. But elevated Treasury yields raise the opportunity cost of holding bullion, and that pressure is showing up in exchange-traded gold funds and miners. GLD fell to $355.78 on Oct. 30 from $373.51 two days earlier, while GDX dropped to $77.09 from $83.95 over the same stretch. Both funds remain below their 50-day moving averages, a conventional technical sign that momentum has weakened.
Adalytica’s Gold Fear & Greed Index also points to a rapid shift in market mood, with sentiment at 5, or “Extreme Fear,” even as awareness remains elevated. That combination usually reflects a market that is still heavily watched but being traded defensively. In practical terms, investors have been reducing exposure to gold miners and bullion proxies even as retail physical demand in Indonesia stays firm enough to keep premium local pricing intact.
The local picture is also being shaped by supply-chain and enforcement issues. Indonesian customs said this month it intercepted illegal gold exports worth Rp61.95 billion across five airports, part of a wider crackdown on smuggling routes and illicit mining. That matters economically because informal exports and illegal mining can distort domestic supply, weaken tax collection and complicate price discovery in the local gold market. Tighter enforcement should help formal channels, but it can also keep physical supply constrained and support premiums for official products such as Antam.
For investors, the story is less about a single daily price list than about the split between retail demand for bullion and institutional caution on gold-related assets. A stronger U.S. dollar and higher real yields would remain a headwind for international gold prices, while any further rise in inflation pressure or geopolitical stress could revive haven demand. In Indonesia, the immediate watchpoints are whether Pegadaian premiums stay elevated, whether customs crackdowns tighten supply, and whether global gold stabilizes enough to pull miners and ETFs off oversold levels.
