The update matters because the leak has moved from an acute safety concern toward a containment and remediation phase, even if the underlying source remains unresolved. For Bangkok authorities, the priority is now to locate and seal the leak before any residual contamination spreads further through drainage routes or underground soil layers.

The department said a warehouse wall roughly 10 meters from the excavation site still showed VOCs at 138 ppm, while a nearby community about 60 meters away showed no oil odor and no VOCs or LEL. That suggests the plume is becoming more localized, but not yet fully gone, which keeps cleanup teams and regulators on alert.

Investigators have expanded excavation along a railway embankment to about 6 meters in length and 2 meters deep, with a third open-soil point started in a landscaped area to trace the origin of the seepage. No visible oil residue has been found at the two initial excavation points so far, and the agency is working with the Khlong Toei incident command center until conditions return to normal.

For investors, the immediate impact is limited to local environmental risk, but the episode is a reminder of the operational and liability costs that can hit industrial operators, storage sites and infrastructure owners when leaks spread into urban areas. Any confirmation of the source could determine whether the fallout stays a localized cleanup or turns into a broader regulatory and legal issue.
