Ford Motor Company is recalling 6,558 Ford and Lincoln vehicles in Mexico for software and rear-suspension defects that could affect driver visibility and create road hazards, adding another quality-control headache for the automaker as recalls remain a costly drag on reputation and execution.
Ford recalls 6,558 vehicles in Mexico

Mexico’s consumer watchdog Profeco said 2,569 vehicles spanning multiple Ford and Lincoln nameplates need software updates because an infotainment error can prevent certain reverse-camera settings from being saved, causing the backup image to go blank intermittently. The affected models include Fusion, MKZ, Edge, Bronco Sport, Escape, Corsair, Continental, F-150, Super Duty, Mustang, Nautilus, Expedition, Navigator, Aviator, Explorer and Transit from model years 2019 through 2024.
A separate notice covers 3,989 Bronco SUVs from model years 2021 through 2024 after Ford found rear shock absorber corrosion that can lead to bouncing, noise and fluid leaks near the back wheels. Profeco said detached external shock components could pose a hazard to other road users, and Ford will repair or replace the affected parts at no cost.
The recall matters economically because warranty work and dealer fixes add direct costs, but the bigger issue is brand damage in a sector where safety lapses can quickly snowball into regulatory scrutiny and customer defection. For Ford, which is already navigating volatile demand, pricing pressure and heavy investment needs, even a relatively small recall can reinforce investor concern about execution and margins.
Shares of Ford have already been trading below the stock’s 50-day and 200-day moving averages, while recent momentum readings have weakened sharply, reflecting a market that has little patience for operational missteps. General Motors and Honda have also faced their own recall and quality headlines, underscoring how defect risk remains a sector-wide issue as automakers juggle EV spending, supply-chain complexity and tighter oversight.
Profeco said it will monitor compliance with the recall, and Ford told owners they can check whether their vehicles are affected through company and Lincoln customer channels. The next investor focus will be whether Ford contains the repair campaign quickly and avoids any sign the issue is broader than the Mexico notice suggests.
