JPMorgan Chase is moving its JPM Coin deposit token onto Ethereum, a step that broadens the bank’s blockchain push and could speed up payments, collateral transfers and settlement for institutional clients.
JPMorgan Moves JPM Coin Onto Ethereum

The world’s biggest bank by market value said the token, which represents U.S. dollar deposits held at JPMorgan, can move funds within seconds around the clock. A JPMorgan spokesperson said JPM Coin has been technically deployed on the Ethereum mainnet, opening the door for approved clients to use public blockchain rails rather than only private network infrastructure.
For investors, the move underscores how large banks are edging deeper into tokenized finance without opening access to retail users or fully embracing crypto-market volatility. JPMorgan is keeping JPM Coin restricted to approved institutional participants, but by choosing Ethereum for its liquidity and existing client use, it is signaling that public blockchains are becoming part of mainstream financial plumbing.
The bank’s Kinexys unit said crypto companies could use the token for blockchain payments, while financial institutions could use it to settle trades and post collateral. That widens the potential use case beyond simple transfers and into areas that directly affect market efficiency and balance-sheet usage, where faster settlement can reduce funding frictions and operational risk.
JPMorgan had already expanded JPM Coin to Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 network, in November 2025 and later said it would support additional public blockchains. It also announced plans in January to bring the token to the Canton Network, suggesting the bank is building a multi-chain distribution strategy rather than tying its token to a single ledger.
The timing matters as tokenized deposits, stablecoins and on-chain settlement compete for a place in institutional payments. JPMorgan’s latest step gives Ethereum another credibility boost in financial markets, while strengthening the case for exchanges, custodians and blockchain infrastructure providers that stand to benefit if more banks and asset managers shift real transaction flow on-chain.
JPMorgan shares have been trading near $338, with the stock above its 200-day moving average, while Coinbase stock has been volatile after a sharp slide in late October. The next catalyst is whether other banks follow JPMorgan’s lead and whether institutional usage on Ethereum translates into measurable transaction growth across crypto infrastructure and payments rails.
