Kapitalbank has quintupled the daily cash acceptance limit on its self-collection service for small businesses, a move that should make it easier for merchants and sole proprietors to recycle cash into working capital without standing in line at bank branches.
Kapitalbank raises cash deposit limits for businesses
The bank said the daily ceiling for cash deposits via its ATMs has risen to 50 million Uzbek som from 10 million som, while the monthly limit increased to 500 million som from 160 million som. It also lifted the number of banknotes accepted in a single transaction to 300 from 200, reducing the friction for businesses that still handle significant cash turnover.
The change matters because small firms in Uzbekistan often operate in cash-heavy sectors where quick access to deposited revenue can be the difference between restocking inventory, paying suppliers and missing a sales opportunity. Instant crediting means the money is available immediately after deposit, which lowers settlement risk and improves cash conversion for merchants that may not have the scale to maintain large liquidity buffers.
For Kapitalbank, the higher limits deepen the utility of its business banking platform and help lock in deposit flows through its own ATM network. The service can be activated online in the Uzum Business Kapitalbank mobile application, where users receive a personal eight-digit code for ATM use, underscoring how banks in the region are blending branchless servicing with wider digital onboarding.
The expansion also fits a broader trend in emerging-market banking: lenders are trying to capture fee income and transactional deposits by offering self-service tools that reduce the cost of handling physical cash. For customers, the appeal is speed and convenience; for banks, it is greater stickiness and potentially lower operating expense than traditional cashier-based collection.
The bull case is that more generous limits will draw additional business clients into Kapitalbank’s ecosystem and strengthen its position in Uzbekistan’s small-business segment. The bear case is that the bank must manage operational and compliance risks that come with higher cash volumes, including ATM capacity, cash logistics and anti-money-laundering controls.
