Al Hassan Engineering led declines on the Muscat Stock Exchange on Wednesday, falling 16.67% to 0.005 rial as Dhofar International Development & Investment also slipped, while the benchmark barely budged even as trading activity picked up.
Muscat 30 flat as Al Hassan Engineering falls 16.67%

The drop in Al Hassan Engineering, which is in liquidation, was the clearest drag on the day and underscores how distressed names can still drive sharp moves in a thin market. Dhofar International fell 3.7% to 0.286 rial, while Musandam Power shed 3.23% and Dhofar Generating Company lost 2.44%, pointing to weakness across a handful of smaller industrial and utility names.
The Muscat 30 index ended down 0.05% at 7,556.89, a loss of 3.43 points, with the financial sector down 0.08% and industry off 0.02%. Services bucked the trend, rising 0.48%, but not enough to offset the pressure from the other gauges.
Market turnover rose 11.84% to 39.51 million Omani rials, while volume climbed 15.14% to 142.12 million shares, suggesting investors were more active even as the headline index moved little. Sohar International Bank was the most traded stock, with 55.26 million shares changing hands worth 10.45 million rials.
The session’s biggest gainers included National Gas, up 9.73%, Dhofar Food & Investment up 9.62% and Eastern Investment Holding higher 8.08%, while Muscat Desalination and Oman Arab Bank also advanced. For investors, the message is a market still trading selectively, with liquidation-related selling in one corner offset by speculative buying in others.
