Palo Alto Networks is drawing another vote of confidence from Wall Street, with TD Cowen lifting its price target to $400 from $360 and keeping a Buy rating as the cybersecurity leader’s shares trade near record territory.
Palo Alto Networks Gets TD Cowen Price Target Hike
The move matters because Palo Alto has already been one of the strongest large-cap software names this year, and a higher target suggests analysts still see room for upside even after a sharp run. The stock closed at $384.27 on Aug. 14, leaving TD Cowen’s new target about 4% above the last close and implying the market is still willing to pay up for security vendors with recurring revenue and scale.
Investor interest in the group has broadened beyond Palo Alto. CrowdStrike ended Aug. 14 at $216.95 after a strong advance this summer, while Zscaler closed at $183.60, also near recent highs. The common thread is that enterprises are continuing to spend on cloud and network security even as broader market signals remain mixed, keeping the sector a favored destination in software.
Palo Alto’s recent price action shows how aggressively investors have re-rated the name. The stock is up from $208.55 on Oct. 10 and has more than doubled from a March low of $147.02, with the 50-day moving average at $326.32 and the 200-day moving average at $222.40. Its RSI reading of 78.8 indicates the shares remain technically overbought, but momentum has stayed strong.
That backdrop gives extra weight to TD Cowen’s call. The upgrade in target, rather than rating, suggests the brokerage is not changing its bullish thesis on execution, but is instead marking up what it thinks the market will pay for Palo Alto’s growth and platform strategy after the stock’s recent surge.
For investors, the key question is whether earnings and guidance can justify the valuation. The next catalyst is likely to be the company’s upcoming results and any commentary on spending trends, deal conversion and demand for AI-related security tools, while any pullback in the broader software trade could hit some of the most crowded winners first.
