Solana is getting a credibility boost from Fidelity just as the blockchain pushes deeper into institutional finance, with a new report saying the network has avoided mainnet outages for two years and now combines faster, cheaper transactions with stronger economic security.
Solana Gains Fidelity Boost as Institutions Test Rails
That matters because reliability is the first test for any chain hoping to move beyond retail crypto and into payments, trading and settlement. If Solana can sustain uptime while handling institutional flows, it strengthens the case for public blockchains as an alternative rail for financial market infrastructure.
The report, from Fidelity’s Center for Applied Technology, points to substantial staking participation and validator incentives as key supports for network security. It also highlights Solana’s low latency, broad capacity and relatively cheap fees as advantages for large-scale use.
But Fidelity also flags a central risk: concentration. Staking, hosting services and client software are still concentrated among a small number of entities, which could become a vulnerability if the network’s role in finance grows.
The timing is important for investors because Solana is trying to convert technical progress into commercial adoption. Bitso has said it is developing a transaction-settlement system for financial institutions on Solana, with input from JPMorgan, a signal that major traditional finance players are at least willing to test the chain’s infrastructure.
JPMorgan’s role appears to be advisory rather than operational, but even that is notable. The bank already runs its own blockchain infrastructure, so its involvement on a public chain underscores how institutions are widening their search for settlement rails that can move faster than legacy correspondent banking systems.
The market backdrop remains cautious even as the fundamental story improves. Solana’s token was last at $107.58, still below its 50-day moving average of $109.60, while its RSI reading of 33.5 points to a weak but stabilizing trend. Technical indicators show the token trying to recover after a recent slide.
Broader crypto sentiment is also fragile. Bitcoin’s Adalytica fear-and-greed reading sits at 11, or “Extreme Fear,” suggesting risk appetite across the sector remains muted even as builders and financial institutions keep pushing on tokenized and onchain infrastructure.
For Solana, the next catalyst is whether these institutional pilots turn into live production systems with regulatory approval and meaningful transaction volume. If they do, the network’s uptime record will matter far more to investors than its trading pattern.
