XRP is back at a level that could decide whether the token’s latest rebound develops into a larger trend or stalls out below long-term resistance.
XRP Near 200-Day Average as Traders Watch Reclaim
The token traded around $1.32 on Oct. 23, just under its 200-day simple moving average of $1.28 to $1.36 depending on the reference date in the data, after a run that took it from a February low near $1.21 and a recent intraday test around $1.37. That matters because the 200-day moving average is one of the most widely watched technical markers in crypto and equities alike: holding above it tends to attract momentum buyers, while failing to reclaim it often leaves rallies vulnerable to another leg lower.
The current setup is being compared with XRP’s 2023 pattern, when the token moved above its long-term trend line, pulled back into the moving-average zone and then recovered before a sharp advance. In that earlier episode, XRP rose from about $0.40 to $0.93, a gain of roughly 134.5%. Applied mechanically to today’s cited average near $1.36, that would imply a target near $3.20, or about 145% above the recent $1.31 level. But that is a historical repeat calculation, not a forecast.
The distinction between a reclaim and a mere test is the key issue for traders. XRP would need to close back above the average and then defend it on a retest for the level to switch from resistance to support. Until then, the analogy to 2023 is only partial. A token trading below its long-term trend with weakening momentum does not enjoy the same setup as one that has already been reclaimed and validated.
That caution is reinforced by the broader technical picture. Recent readings show RSI in the high 30s, below neutral and consistent with fading momentum, while MACD remains slightly negative. Those indicators suggest buyers have yet to generate the kind of follow-through that typically confirms a trend reversal. In other words, the market is not yet pricing the kind of durable breakout that would make a $3 move plausible in the near term.
Still, XRP has not been trading in a vacuum. The token’s 2023 rally accelerated after the court ruling in the SEC’s case against Ripple, showing how a legal or regulatory catalyst can amplify a technical breakout. More recently, XRP has benefited from robust trading activity, exchange withdrawals and broader interest in the asset, all of which can tighten available supply and support price swings. But those flows can cut both ways: when leverage resets and speculative positioning unwinds, momentum can fade quickly if spot demand does not persist.
For investors, the immediate question is not whether XRP can eventually revisit higher levels, but whether the current bounce can survive above the 200-day average long enough to convert a tactical rally into a larger trend. A successful reclaim would strengthen the bull case for a retest of $1.45 and, further out, the historical $3.20 comparison. Failure to hold the average would leave the recent move looking like another oversold rebound inside a broader range.
