XRP is under pressure again as traders dump the token toward $1.30, while Bitcoin stays above $81,000 but fails to build momentum, a combination that points to fading risk appetite across crypto markets.
XRP Holds Near $1.30 as Bitcoin Stalls Above $81K
The move matters because XRP has been one of the higher-beta plays in digital assets, and its drop below its 50-day moving average leaves it vulnerable if buyers do not step back in quickly. Bitcoin’s relative stability is helping cap broader market stress, but it is not yet strong enough to lift speculative tokens or restore bullish positioning.
On the latest session, XRP traded at $1.30 on Oct. 20, after hitting $1.29 a day earlier, with volume around 1.52 billion tokens. The token remains above its 200-day moving average at $1.28, but the 50-day average sits higher at $1.41, a sign the short-term trend has deteriorated.
Momentum gauges look weak. XRP’s RSI is around 20.5, deep in oversold territory, while MACD remains below its signal line, suggesting selling pressure has not yet exhausted itself. Bitcoin, by contrast, finished near $81,999.81, still well above its 200-day average of $72,570.94, but its RSI of 35.3 and flattening MACD show traders are not chasing the recent rebound.
The backdrop is also less supportive for crypto sentiment. Reports of a global crackdown on crypto fraud, including the arrest of a suspected scam figure in Istanbul, have reinforced regulatory and security concerns at a time when traders are already selective about risk. Coinbase shares, meanwhile, have slipped to $168.45 from $183.81 just four sessions earlier, a sign the exchange operator is not escaping the softer tone.
For investors, the key question is whether XRP can hold the $1.28 to $1.30 area and reclaim the 50-day average near $1.41, or whether the next leg lower drags it back toward the mid-$1.20s. Bitcoin’s ability to stay above $80,000 will likely set the tone for the rest of the crypto complex in the near term, with any regulatory headlines or ETF-linked flow changes likely to determine whether this is a pause or a deeper reset.
