BMW Group is leaning harder into electric vehicles in Italy, where BMW and Mini combined sold 6,605 fully electric cars in the first nine months of 2026, up 26.5% year on year, with BMW-branded BEVs alone jumping 42% to 5,067 units.
BMW Italy EV Sales Rise, Mini Strengthens

The sales mix matters because Italy is still a premium battleground, and BMW said the group held a 35% share of the premium market over the period while its BEV share in that segment reached 27.4%. That gives the Munich-based carmaker more pricing power and helps offset weakness in parts of the conventional engine business as buyers shift toward battery-powered models.
Overall, BMW Group deliveries in Italy rose 2.2% to 68,001 vehicles, even as the core BMW brand slipped 1.3% to 54,622 units. The smaller Mini brand was the standout, up 19.5% to 13,379 vehicles, while BMW Motorrad sold 12,850 motorcycles and kept its lead in the premium two-wheel segment above 750 cc.
The electric push is being led by the new BMW iX3, the first model from the Neue Klasse platform, which BMW says has already topped 100,000 global orders. In Italy, the model is also supporting sales of the X3 line, underscoring how new EV product cycles can lift adjacent combustion and hybrid demand rather than simply replace it.
BMW also said it retained a strong position in plug-in hybrids, with 9,248 registrations and a 32.4% share in the premium PHEV segment. That reflects the company’s “open technology” approach, betting on a mix of battery-electric, hybrid and eventually sustainable-fuel options as the market transitions unevenly across Europe.
For investors, the Italian performance adds evidence that BMW’s premium positioning is translating into EV momentum without sacrificing group scale. The next test will be whether the Neue Klasse launch cadence, including the upcoming X5 and 3 Series, can keep the brand growing as competitors chase the same buyers in a slower European auto market.
