The Depository Trust & Clearing Corp.’s plan to bring Stellar into its tokenization roadmap as early as 2027 is giving XLM a fresh narrative, but Ethereum still controls the bigger and more immediate slice of the market that could matter most to investors.
DTCC Tokenization Roadmap Boosts Stellar, Ethereum Leads

DTCC, the U.S. market utility that settles stock trades, is preparing to launch its Tokenization Service in October on Canton Network and its private Besu network, starting with 25 stocks, ETFs and U.S. Treasuries. The company says roughly $30 trillion in assets could eventually be tokenized, underscoring why the sector has become one of crypto’s most closely watched institutional battlegrounds.
That makes the question for traders less about whether tokenization is real and more about which blockchain is best positioned to capture it. DTCC’s roadmap points to Stellar and the Arc network in 2027, but the firm has not confirmed a launch date for Stellar, and the asset is not part of the October rollout.
The gap in adoption is already visible. Ethereum has about $17 billion in tokenized real-world assets on its network, while XLM is trading around $0.18 after sliding 15.3% over the past two weeks. Ethereum, by contrast, is around $2,417 and has risen 29% over the past 90 days, highlighting the market’s preference for the blockchain with the deepest institutional footprint.
For investors, the distinction matters because tokenization is turning into a race for infrastructure, not just speculation on crypto prices. DTCC’s successful July 15 test, which converted DTC-held securities into tokens for live trades involving more than 30 firms, shows the market plumbing is already being built. Whoever becomes the preferred chain for banks, asset managers and custodians could gain a durable flow of on-chain activity.
XLM still has a case if DTCC eventually follows through on Stellar, but the market is pricing in a lot of uncertainty. The token would need to reclaim about $0.20 and secure a confirmed DTCC entry date to improve its odds against Ethereum, which already has scale, liquidity and stronger momentum in tokenized assets.
Short term, traders will be watching whether DTCC gives clearer guidance on Stellar’s timing and whether the October launch on Canton and Besu deepens institutional use of tokenized securities. Until then, Ethereum remains the clearer proxy for the tokenization trade, while Stellar is still a future bet.
