U.S. stocks pushed the S&P 500 to a record high as investors kept buying artificial intelligence leaders even while the bond market slumped, a split-screen trade that underscores how dominant the AI theme has become.
Nvidia Microsoft Alphabet Lift S&P 500 to Records

The move matters because rising Treasury yields usually pressure equity valuations, especially for the richly priced megacap tech names powering the index higher. Instead, money continued to flow into Nvidia, Microsoft and Alphabet, suggesting investors are still willing to look past higher discount rates in exchange for exposure to AI spending, cloud demand and semiconductor capacity.

Nvidia was one of the clearest beneficiaries, with the chipmaker closing at $236.98 on Oct. 7, up sharply from a recent low near $176.78 in late February and above its 200-day moving average of $201.35. The stock’s 50-day average stood at $220.43, while its RSI reading of 75.9 pointed to extended momentum, and heavy turnover underscored the intensity of the buying.
Microsoft also held near record territory, finishing at $527.91 after touching $529.30 the prior day, while its 50-day average climbed to $495.80 and the 200-day average to $432.23. Alphabet ended at $346.06, slightly below its recent highs but still well above its 200-day average of $339.23, showing that the AI trade remains broad rather than confined to one chipmaker.
The bond backdrop is still a risk. Adalytica’s U.S. Treasury bond signals showed sentiment slipping to 40, while awareness remained elevated, pointing to a market that is watching the rate move but not treating it as a reason to abandon equities. That helps explain why the S&P 500’s gain has persisted even as Treasury prices weakened.
The pattern leaves investors focused on two questions: whether AI earnings and capital spending can keep justifying the rally, and whether higher yields eventually force a reset in valuations. For now, the answer from the market is clear — the AI bid is overpowering the bond-market warning.
