T-Mobile emerged as the biggest winner in Poland’s mobile number-portability market in the third quarter, as more than 425,000 cellular numbers changed operators in a sign that competition remains intense and customer churn stays elevated.
T-Mobile Polska Leads Q3 Porting Gains in Poland
Poland’s telecom regulator UKE said 425,608 mobile numbers were transferred in the quarter, up more than 64,000 from 361,107 in the prior three months. The flow of switching matters because it is one of the clearest real-time gauges of pricing pressure, retention and brand strength in a saturated mobile market.
T-Mobile gained 26,541 SIM users from porting activity, while Orange Polska added 8,637. Polkomtel, the Plus operator, was the biggest loser, shedding 50,093 customers, and P4, which runs Play, lost 10,782.
For investors, the data points to a market where growth is increasingly a battle for share rather than a race for new subscribers. Operators that can attract switchers often have more pricing power, better network perception or more compelling bundled offers, while those losing customers may need heavier promotions to defend their base.
The pattern also fits the broader telecom backdrop in Europe, where mobile revenues are under pressure from competition and consumers are quicker to move when contracts expire. In T-Mobile’s case, the Polish porting gains add to a narrative of stronger customer traction, even as its U.S.-listed shares have been volatile and technically mixed, with recent trading leaving the stock below its 200-day moving average.
The next read-through for investors will be whether the porting gains translate into revenue growth and lower churn in operators’ upcoming results, and whether Plus and Play respond with promotions that keep pressure on margins.
