Donald Trump Jr. has returned the money that Russian billionaire Umar Kremlev says he spent on the three-day Bahamas wedding celebration with Bettina Anderson, ending a payment question that had drawn scrutiny because of Kremlev’s ties to Vladimir Putin and the Trump family’s long-running Russia entanglements.
Trump Jr. Repays Bahamas Wedding Bill

Kremlev said Tuesday in Istanbul that he had covered the cost of the festivities, including rental of one of two private islands used for the event, and that the spending ran into the “hundreds of thousands of dollars.” He added that Trump Jr. later repaid the amount, though he did not say why the money was sent back.
The episode matters less for the size of the bill than for the optics. Any financial exchange between a Trump family member and a wealthy Russian figure linked to the Kremlin invites fresh questions about access, influence and disclosure at a time when Trump remains engaged in efforts to broker an end to the war in Ukraine.
Trump had previously defended the arrangement, saying it was permissible and that the money would likely be returned. Kremlev, who leads the International Boxing Association and was recently awarded Russia’s Order of Friendship, dismissed the repayment as unnecessary, saying it was simply a shared celebration and not a commercial transaction.
The wedding itself took place in May in the Bahamas and was followed by three days of festivities. Bettina Anderson later described the event on Instagram as intimate and family-focused, before noting that Kremlev hosted two nights of celebrations afterward and calling him a close friend.
The disclosure lands against a broader backdrop of continuing political sensitivity around Trump’s ties to Russia, including scrutiny dating back to the 2016 campaign and the Trump Tower meeting with a Russian lawyer. For investors and political watchers, the issue is not a market-moving event in the traditional sense, but it adds another layer of headline risk around a presidential family already central to policy, geopolitics and legal overhangs.
The story is likely to keep resurfacing as Trump’s foreign policy posture, Russia’s war in Ukraine and the Trump family’s business and social connections remain under the spotlight.
