AI-linked equities have spent months priced for perfection, and that is pushing some investors toward cryptocurrencies that still offer identifiable growth drivers without the same valuation risk.
Zcash and Solana Gain Against AI Stocks

That rotation is the real story behind why Zcash and Solana are being pitched as alternatives to AI stocks now. The case is not that crypto is suddenly cheap in an absolute sense, but that parts of the digital-asset market appear to have clearer near-term catalysts and, in some cases, less stretched valuations than the semiconductor and infrastructure names tied to artificial intelligence.

The contrast is stark in the numbers. Arm Holdings, a supplier to AI companies, traded at about 120 times forward earnings as of Sept. 18, or 432% above the semiconductor industry median. That kind of multiple leaves little room for execution mistakes and assumes a prolonged boom in data-center spending. By comparison, the thesis for Zcash and Solana rests more on network usage and supply dynamics than on an open-ended promise of future AI capital expenditure.
Zcash’s appeal is partly structural. The privacy coin has a hard cap of 21 million tokens and, unlike many privacy-focused assets, has built in selective disclosure features that make it more compatible with regulated finance. That matters because the token has already managed to secure a place in the institutional ecosystem: a spot Zcash ETF had more than $500 million of assets as of Sept. 8, while Cypherpunk Technologies holds 323,394 ZEC, about 1.9% of circulating supply, and wants to lift that stake to 5%.

That creates a supply squeeze narrative investors can actually quantify. Between ETF buying, corporate treasury accumulation and mining demand, more coins are being absorbed into balance sheets and funds at a time when issuance is fixed. Cypherpunk is also running mining capacity equal to 18% of network hash power, supported by a $33.3 million equity deal with Winklevoss Capital. For investors, the bullish argument is that Zcash can appreciate if institutional demand keeps outrunning available supply, even if broader risk appetite for speculative crypto remains uneven.
Solana’s investment case is different but similarly grounded in usage. The network has emerged as the dominant venue for tokenized equities, with $448 million of such assets on-chain as of Sept. 18 and roughly 85% to 95% of on-chain equity trading volume in 2026 so far. That kind of concentration matters because it suggests Solana is capturing real transaction activity, not just speculative flows. The coin is already up 60% over the past three months, helped by that tokenization trend.
The more speculative, but potentially larger, upside driver is the arrival of AI agents. Solana’s adoption of the x402 standard has already enabled more than 35 million payments, yet those transactions have generated only a little over $10 million in cumulative volume. That gap between transaction count and dollar value suggests the ecosystem is still early. If AI agents begin transacting at scale, Solana could benefit from rising network usage regardless of whether investors want exposure to the crowded AI hardware trade.
That is why the comparison resonates. AI stocks such as Nvidia have remained powerful market leaders, but their valuations and expectations leave them vulnerable to any slowdown in capital spending or monetization. Crypto remains volatile and exposed to regulatory and security risks — a reminder of recent exchange hacks and fraud cases — but Zcash and Solana offer investors a different way to participate in the same broader technological themes: digital payments, automated commerce and infrastructure for new kinds of online activity.
For portfolio managers, the trade is less about choosing crypto over AI forever than about where the margin of safety looks better today. If AI infrastructure spending keeps accelerating, both the chip complex and networks like Solana can benefit. If growth disappoints, the higher-multiple AI names have more air to come out of them first. That asymmetry is what makes the crypto rotation worth watching.
