Abruzzo is putting €10 million behind a new regional call designed to push micro, small and medium-sized firms and freelancers into cloud computing, cybersecurity, e-commerce and data-driven production, a move the region says is aimed at closing a structural technology gap that has held back competitiveness.

The funding matters because Italy’s smaller businesses remain highly exposed to weak productivity, limited digital adoption and rising cyber risks, all of which can erode margins and narrow access to domestic and export markets. For Abruzzo, the program is a direct bid to turn digital investment from a cost item into a lever for continuity, sustainability and growth.
Regional activities councillor Tiziana Magnacca said the initiative is meant to help local companies “accelerate” on innovation and prepare for challenges including artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. The call covers firms across manufacturing, crafts, retail, services and tourism, signaling that the region is treating digital upgrade as a broad economic policy rather than a sector-specific subsidy.
Under the program, grants will cover 40% to 70% of eligible spending, with projects ranging from €10,000 to €100,000. Qualifying investments include cloud migration, integrated ERP and CRM software, online sales platforms, automation and analytics, all of which can improve efficiency and customer reach for smaller businesses with thin capital buffers.
Applications will be handled entirely online through the regional digital window, which opens at 10 a.m. on Sept. 21 and runs until Oct. 12, 2026. The compressed timeline suggests the region wants to move quickly on deployment, with the first practical test being whether local firms can translate the subsidy into productive investment rather than one-off equipment purchases.
For investors, the story is less about the direct size of the fund than about what it says on the demand side: public money is still being used across Europe to accelerate SME software, cloud and security spending, a tailwind for vendors in enterprise software, cybersecurity, digital services and payments.
