Healthcare stocks are drawing fresh buying as Adalytica’s healthcare spending sentiment gauge surged to 82, a level labeled “Greed,” even as consumer spending sentiment remains in “Fear” at 18.
Healthcare stocks rise as spending sentiment hits 82

The divergence matters because investors are rotating toward companies tied to non-discretionary demand, where spending is less vulnerable to household caution and more supported by procedure growth, reimbursement visibility and long-term adoption of medical technology. That makes device makers and hospital-exposed suppliers relative winners if broader consumer demand stays soft.

Dexcom, Intuitive Surgical and Medtronic are all benefiting from that trade. Dexcom’s shares have climbed to $86.04 from $57.56 at the end of April, while Intuitive Surgical is at $426.70 after rebounding from a July low near $345.42 and Medtronic is trading at $94.75, near the top of its recent range after a sharp October rebound.
The technical backdrop also looks constructive. Dexcom is trading just below its 50-day moving average of $87.55, with RSI at 48.2 after a strong run that briefly pushed it into overbought territory earlier this year. Intuitive Surgical is holding above both its 50-day average of $391.67 and its 200-day average of $439.63, while Medtronic has pushed above its 50-day average of $90.38 and remains above its 200-day average of $86.94.
For investors, the message is that healthcare remains one of the few sectors where spending can accelerate even when discretionary appetite weakens. That supports premium valuations for names with recurring procedure volumes, strong evidence-based product pipelines and exposure to global hospital spending, including the international growth cited by Intuitive Surgical in recent filings.
The risk is that sentiment can reverse quickly if broader markets reprice growth or if healthcare policy and reimbursement come under pressure. The next catalyst is likely to come from earnings updates and procedure-volume commentary, which will show whether the spending optimism is translating into revenue.
