Rice sellers in Vietnam are keeping asking prices firm while transactions remain sluggish, suggesting the market is balancing on thin buying interest rather than a clear price breakout.
Vietnam rice prices hold firm as trade stays sluggish

Fresh paddy prices on Oct. 25 were quoted at 5,900-6,600 dong per kilogram, with OM 18 and DS1 both touching the top end at 6,600 dong. But the stronger listings have not yet translated into faster turnover, and buying at An Giang and other Mekong Delta areas remains slow.
That matters because rice is a key farm income driver in the Mekong Delta, and a stall in physical trade can keep cash flowing poorly even when sellers resist lower bids. For traders and millers, the gap between asking prices and actual procurement volumes is the signal that matters most: prices can stay elevated only if demand eventually closes that gap.
The broader rice complex is also waiting for confirmation from export orders. Vietnam’s quoted export prices for 5% broken fragrant rice and Jasmine were unchanged from the prior day, pointing to a market that is stable but not yet stronger, while 100% broken fragrant rice lacked a comparable prior-day reference in the data set.
Investors and agribusiness players are watching whether buyers step up fresh procurement and whether quality-compliant cargoes get absorbed faster. If order flow improves, prices could firm further; if trade stays muted, sellers’ high offers may prove hard to sustain.
