Bitmine Immersion buys ether, expands buyback on Aug. 3

Bitmine Immersion Technologies bought more ether last week and expanded its share repurchase program, doubling down on a crypto-heavy capital strategy even as its stock stays volatile.
Chairman Tom Lee said ether’s outperformance versus the Nasdaq in July points to improving fundamentals in digital assets, framing the company’s latest moves as a bet that institutional demand and crypto adoption are strengthening beyond a short-term trading rebound.
The company’s shares closed at $16.96 on Aug. 3, down sharply from $53.47 on Aug. 22 last year and far below a recent $63.20 peak, underscoring how quickly sentiment has shifted around the stock. Bitmine’s 50-day moving average sits at $16.35, near the current price, while the 200-day average is $25.15, showing the shares are still trading well below longer-term levels.
Ether was last at $1,852.40 on Aug. 3, holding above its 50-day average of $1,783.26 but still below its 200-day average of $2,087.89. Bitcoin sentiment, tracked by Adalytica.com, has also weakened to “Fear,” even as awareness remains elevated, suggesting investors remain highly engaged but less risk-seeking across the crypto complex.
For investors, the combination of an ether purchase and a buyback matters because it signals management sees both the balance sheet and the stock as mispriced. In crypto treasury names, that can reinforce a feedback loop: stronger token exposure supports the core asset story, while repurchases can help offset dilution and stabilize the equity.
The move also lands against a split backdrop in broader markets, with the S&P 500 showing “Extreme Greed” in Adalytica trade signals while the U.S. dollar has strengthened sharply. That mix can pressure risk assets even as selective crypto-linked names try to reassert leadership.
Bitmine’s next test will be whether ether can keep outperforming equities and whether the company can sustain capital returns without weakening its ability to keep adding crypto exposure. The stock’s near-term direction will likely track both ether prices and any further disclosures on treasury activity.
