FAW-Volkswagen has launched the Jetta M6 2027 in China at a starting price of 79,800 yuan, or about 309.1 million dong, underscoring how aggressively automakers are pushing into the lower end of the electric-vehicle market to win price-sensitive buyers.
FAW-Volkswagen launches Jetta M6 EV in China

The sedan arrives with three trims, a maximum range of 555 km under China’s CLTC standard, and top-end output of 195 horsepower, showing that mainstream joint ventures are no longer reserving EV technology for premium models. The move matters economically because it adds another low-cost option in the world’s biggest EV market, where price competition is squeezing margins and forcing brands to lean harder on scale, software and battery efficiency.
The Jetta M6 is built on FAW-Volkswagen’s Jiesi EV architecture and uses a lithium iron phosphate battery supplied by CALB, a chemistry favored for lower cost and durability. FAW-Volkswagen says the higher-output version can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds, while fast charging lifts the battery from 30% to 80% in about 25 minutes.
For investors, the launch is another reminder that China’s EV battle is increasingly about affordability rather than headline performance. That is positive for buyers and suppliers tied to mass-market electrification, but it raises pressure on automakers such as Volkswagen and rivals including BYD and Tesla to defend share without sacrificing profitability.
The model’s 0.208 drag coefficient, 15.6-inch 2.5K center screen and driver-assistance package using Horizon Robotics’ Journey 6M chip and GAIA 2.0 software show how much technology is now bundled into entry-level EVs. The question for the market is whether that feature set can support volume in a crowded field, or whether discounting will deepen across China’s sedan segment as more joint ventures and local brands chase the same buyer.
